Sweden's west coast at its best: pink granite skerries sliding into cold, clear water, oyster shacks that double as the only building for kilometres, and quiet gravel roads threading between fishing villages that empty out once the summer crowds leave. This route follows the coast north from Gothenburg toward the Norwegian border, staying on smaller roads and gravel wherever the coastline allows rather than the main E6 corridor, which means more climbing than the flat map suggests but a far better ride for it. Swimming spots are constant and mostly empty outside July, and the seafood along this stretch — smoked, fried or straight off the boat — is reason enough to keep the daily distances modest. Three days is enough to cover the ground without rushing the coastline, camping wild on the granite where it's allowed or booking one of the small harbourside guesthouses that dot the route. Expect granite islands connected by short bridges, working harbours rather than tourist ones, and a version of the Swedish coast that most visitors driving the main road never see.
