Åkulla is well known to gravel riders in this part of Sweden for good reason — a dense stretch of managed forest laced with fire roads and singletrack connectors, hilly enough to keep things honest without ever tipping into mountain-bike territory. This loop makes the most of it, stringing together close to 200km and 1,800 metres of climbing through the trees, out into open farmland and back again. Bring wide tyres and expect the surface to change its mind more than once — this is training-camp terrain, built for riders putting in real volume. Water is easy to find at the villages that bracket the forest, but inside Åkulla itself, plan ahead — long stretches have no shops or taps. Most riders tackle it as a single very long day rather than splitting it, since there's little reason to camp partway through terrain built for training rather than sightseeing. Best from April to October, before the fire roads turn to standing water and before the first frost makes the exposed sections genuinely unpleasant.
