The Bikepack (thebikepack.blog) is an independent bikepacking journal run by two riders in Gothenburg, Sweden. This page explains what personal data the site handles, why, and what your choices are. We keep it short and specific to what this site actually does.
Who is responsible
The site is operated by The Bikepack, Gothenburg, Sweden. You can reach us through the contact section on our About page.
What we collect, and why
Comments
If you leave a comment on a story, we store the name you type, your comment, the time, and technical data WordPress records with it (your IP address and browser user agent). This is used to show your comment, to moderate comments and to fight spam. Comments are reviewed before they appear. Ask us and we will delete a comment you have written.
Newsletter
If you subscribe, your email address is sent to Kit (kit.com), the service we use to send the occasional dispatch. We use it only to send you the newsletter. Every email contains an unsubscribe link.
The Enjoy button
When you press Enjoy on a story we add one to that story’s counter. Your browser remembers that you pressed it (local storage on your device). No personal data is stored on our server for this.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (through Google Site Kit) to understand which stories and routes are read, and how visitors find the site. Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser type. IP addresses are not stored in identifiable form by Google Analytics 4.
Advertising
We may show ads through Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show and measure ads, including personalised ads where you have consented. You can manage ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com and learn more at how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
Maps and hosting
Route maps load map tiles from CARTO/OpenStreetMap and the Leaflet library from unpkg, which means your IP address is visible to those services when a map is displayed. The site is hosted by Hostinger and delivered through its content delivery network, which processes ordinary server logs (IP address, requested page, time).
Cookies
The site itself sets very few cookies (for example, WordPress remembers the name you used when commenting if you are asked to and agree). Analytics and advertising services set their own cookies as described above. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site works without them.
Legal basis (GDPR)
We process data based on your consent (newsletter, analytics and advertising cookies where consent is required), our legitimate interest in running and securing the site (spam protection, server logs), and your request when you leave a comment.
How long we keep data
Comments are kept until you ask us to remove them or until we remove the story. Newsletter subscribers stay on the list until they unsubscribe. Analytics data is kept according to Google Analytics retention settings.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to see, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, object to processing, withdraw consent at any time, and complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY, imy.se). Contact us through the About page and we will respond promptly.
Changes
If the way the site handles data changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
