13 Hills is a relentless tribute to the vertical challenges of the Småland Highlands, where the steepest inclines of Jönköping form a force of nature that tests every fibre of your being. The route snakes through a dramatic landscape where the mirror-like waters of Lake Vättern contrast against the deep, dense forests guarding the city's heights. From the first pedal strokes at the water's edge to the highest vantage points, the course is a constant battle against gravity, featuring thirteen selected climbs that demand both technical finesse and an unbreakable spirit. It is an intense cycling experience that transforms the city's topography into an epic arena, rewarding every summit with panoramic views and the profound satisfaction of having conquered the terrain. Most of the thirteen climbs sit within a compact radius of the city centre, which means the route loops and doubles back rather than pushing outward in a straight line — plan for a day of repeated short, sharp efforts rather than one long sustained grind. Surface alternates between paved city-edge roads and rougher forest gravel on the steepest sections, so a gravel bike with a wide gear range earns its keep here more than on flatter routes. Best tackled April to October, and best treated as a training benchmark you return to rather than a one-off: riders who live locally often ride sections of it repeatedly through a season to track fitness against the same climbs.
