Trollstigen is the serpentine dream every cyclist pictures — a road that climbs from the floor of a green valley to the top of the world. Eleven switchbacks wind past a 320-metre waterfall, the mist filling the air as snow-capped peaks rise on every side. The average gradient sits near 9%, steep enough to sting, but every turn of the pedals is repaid with a wider view of the valley falling away below. By the final hairpin, the legs are cooked and the view is the kind that makes you forget it.
